buckner convertible backpack
this bag was designed for the Fossil Summer 2018 product assortment. because of its success, it was carried forward into future seasons with color and material extensions.
the concept
Fossil’s male consumer likes function and timeless design.
with backpacks and workbags as our top selling styles, I created a silhouette that could function as both.
the process
most men aren’t shopping for a new bag every season. so when they do shop they’re looking for a style that will be an everyday bag - a style that can transition from work to “play”.
in my exploration, convertibility and simple design were my top priorities.
the style needed to be clean so that no matter what you’re wearing or where you’re going, it works. it also needed to have an ease of use, so that the transition from brief to backpack, or backpack to brief, wasn’t a hassle.
with that, I came to the final design:

through in-house sampling and factory samples, slight tweaks were made in order to get to the best final product.
